Guia del Lich (Esta en ingles)
1: Introduction

The Lich is, despite recent nerfs, one of the most powerful heroes in the game. Not only is he effective in league games, he's also effective and very fun to play in public games, TDA's, or games with similar skill level.
2: Hero Overview

Frost Nova: Blasts enemy units around a target enemy unit with a wave of damaging frost that slows movement and attack rates for 4 seconds.

Level 1 - 50 target damage and 75 nova damage.
Level 2 - 100 target damage and 100 nova damage.
Level 3 - 125 target damage and 125 nova damage.
Level 4 - 175 target damage and 150 nova damage.
This is your bread-and-butter skill, your early harasser, a nuke in battles, and your overall main damage source aside from your ultimate. Use it to dominate lanes early on and to chase down heroes.

Frost Armor: Creates a shield of frost around a target friendly unit. The shield adds armor and slows attacking melee units for 2 seconds.
Lasts 25 seconds.

Level 1 - Adds 2 armor.
Level 2 - Adds 4 armor.
Level 3 - Adds 6 armor.
Level 4 - Adds 8 armor.
Mostly used later in the game, this is useful for keeping your tank heroes strong. Especially great on heroes with high HP like King Leo and Pudge, this can increase survivability by a ton. This is also great for running away against melee heroes.

Dark Ritual: Sacrifices a target friendly unit to convert its hit points into mana.

Level 1 - 15% of hit points to mana.
Level 2 - 30% of hit points to mana.
Level 3 - 45% of hit points to mana.
Level 4 - 60% of hit points to mana.
This has two primary purposes. The first is, obviously, to restore mana, which allows you to constantly spam nova and still always have mana for your ultimate. It also, however, lets you get a ton of free denies in by using it whenever its cooldown is done. This is the spell that gives you a huge level advantage over your lane opponents.

Chain Frost: Releases a jumping breath of frost that jumps 6 times.

Level 1 - Deals 280 damage per hit.
Level 2 - Deals 370 damage per hit.
Level 3 - Deals 460 damage per hit.
Amazing for getting early hero kills in addition with Frost Nova, this lets you own your lane even harder early on. More importantly, it's your main source of damage mid-late game. By the end of the game, this is practically the only damage source you have. If no creeps are around, it can really wreak havoc on the other team.
3:Skill Build

Level 1: Dark Ritual
Level 2: Frost Nova
Level 3: Frost Nova
Level 4: Dark Ritual
Level 5: Frost Nova
Level 6: Chain Frost
Level 7: Frost Nova
Level 8: Dark Ritual
Level 9: Dark Ritual
Level 10: Attribute Bonus
Level 11: Chain Frost
Levels 12-15: Attribute Bonus
Level 16: Chain Frost
Levels 17-21: Attribute Bonus
Levels 22-25: Frost Armor
3a: Explanation

This build is pretty generic and is what you'll see most people do, with a few random variations.
First, Dark Ritual first every game. Why? So you can wait up right next to where the creeps spawn and ritual that creep. You get a free deny before the creeps even engage, and it's practically cooled down when they finally do meet each other.

Then, you try to get level 2 Frost Nova soon, because level 2 is pretty good for nuking, and you want to start lowering their HP. However, this is situational. If you're in a lane with a lot of regen (i.e., you're soloing against 2 heroes with a headress and another ring of regen, and they're sharing the ring of regen), going Ritual/Nova/Ritual may be much better, since Ritual's cooldown decreases with each level. This way, since your nukes won't be doing much anyway, you can deny more. On the other hand, if you're facing a solo Phantom Assassin, definitely max out Nova immediately, since you want to keep her low. At levels 5 and 7, Nova is a must, because even if they do have a lot of regen, the nova is so good that it will still force them to be wary . Even when facing a combo such as Maiden/Vengeful Spirit, you need to be agressive rather than passive, because, by keeping them low, a single Chain Frost will wipe them out if they try to kill you. But that doesn't mean putting yourself in unnecessary danger by being too aggressive.

Finally.. Frost Armor at levels 22-25? Are you joking me? That spell owns man!

True, but Attribute Bonus, in many cases, owns even more, even if it's less directly noticeable. Often you'll Frost Armor yourself, and then be hit by a grand total of.. 2 physical attacks, but you do get hit by a Macropyre and a Freezing Field from a Jakiro and Maiden, killing you.

Well, Frost Armor didn't help you a whole lot there, but Attribute Bonus may very well have provided you the extra HP to survive that attack.

Let's face it; lich is really weak, and he needs HP to survive. Armor is most effective when you have more HP.

However, you don't always have to wait until level 22 to get Frost Armor. Because, as we know, you don't have to cast it on yourself. Maybe you have a Skeleton King as an ally, and he's already got a Heart of Tarrasque. Well, in that case, definitely go ahead and start getting Frost Armor at around level 17 or 18. But also keep in mind what your opponents heroes are. If they have a lot of spellcasters like Jakiro, Crystal Maiden, and Lina, it really won't be that useful, even if you do have a beefed up Skeleton King. But, if they have more heroes like Furion or Morphling, Frost Armor will be able to reduce their damage output by a whole lot.

And, of course, you max Chain Frost whenever you can, because it's got such huge damage potential.

So, by late in the game, your invetory should look like:

Additional Items:
Aghanim's Scepter
Heart of Tarrasque
Black King Bar
Eye of Skadi

Explanation
The Chicken is great for allowing you, and, if you share control, everyone on your team to not have to go back to heal. Instead, you can just take clarities/tangoes to you, to avoid the hassle, allowing you to farm more.

Tangos of Essifation are used not only to keep your HP high when you get harassed, but also to avoid ganks by Furion, if there is one. As soon as he Sprouts you, simply eat one of the trees and you can run away, hopefully surviving the gank.

*(Note: Often, when a Furion teleports in, it will be a 2 or 3-man gank, where they position themselves in such a way that Chain frost will not be able to bounce off on anyone. By eating the way out of the tree, you force them to reposition themselves, and often a Chain Frost will now be able to either stop the gank or even kill one or two of them)

The Ring of Regeneration and the Ironwood Branches are both used for the Mekansm, but they're also great assets early on, by giving you extra regeneration, HP, and a little extra damage for last hitting and denying.

Mekansm gives a great bonus to HP. It also means that, if there isn't a Furion, you never have to buy Tangoes again, since you can just use the Mekansm to gain back your HP (And Dark Ritual to gain the mana back).
It's also a must in every team battle, helping teammates escape ganks, and pushes.

Bracers are, like the Mekansm, used for keeping you alive. Because the Lich is so fragile, you need all the HP you can get.

Kelen's Dagger of Escape is one of the most versatile items in the game. You can blink out of Sprout, you can blink in to Chain Frost, you can blink in to chase down and Frost Nova, and you can just blink away from people who are chasing you. It's also got a pretty short cooldown, meaning that you can use it multiple times in a long battle.

Boots of Travel lets you stop pushes and continue pushes. If, for example, you just took down 2 towers and then decided to back because you're all weak, you can TP back and farm a lane right away. Or, vice-versa: If you're farming, you can TP to where your allies are to start a push. Likewise, it can also be used to defend. If you find that you're pushing a lane alone while your team is waiting at base to await the enemy's push, you can TP back to base. This way, the lane you were in will still start pushing, but you will also be able to stop the enemy push.

Or, you can just use your superior move speed to run away from a Lina who is chasing you, or to TP away while you're hiding in the woods... Like Kelen's Dagger of Escape, Boots of Travel can be used in a million different ways.

Aegis of the Immortal, along with Frost Armor, gives you a whole lot of armor and spell reduction. Most importantly, though, it lets you die in a push, and then be right back in action 5 seconds later with Boots of Travel. Plus, you don't lose any of the gold when you die, so it buys itself back about halfway (not even counting all the extra gold you wouldn't have gotten while you were dead).

And as for the extra items, Aghanim's Scepter is good when you're still, even though it's late game, a powerhouse on the team due to a great early and mid-game start. It doesn't give as much survivability as the other choices, so only get it if you aren't worried about surviving, and more worried about dealing out a ton of damage.

Heart of Tarrasque just gives you a whole lot of HP to help you survive some battles. In addition, it gives a lot of HP regeneration, so you can stay pushing even when you're half HP, because you'll regain it so fast. Black King Bar (BKB) makes you immune to spells. To decide which one to get, pay attention to how you're dying. Is it from some physical attacker, like Syllabear? Or is it from spells from heroes like Lina, Jakiro, and Crystal Maiden? If the former, get a Heart. If the latter, get a BKB.

Eye of Skadi isn't normally as good as the other choices because it's incredibly expensive. You're paying a lot of money for the agility that goes with the Skadi, and you don't particularly need any agility, except that it gives you extra armor.
However, it helps you slow down and chase the enemy when Frost Nova is cooling down. Also, it gives you a lot of HP, too.

And, one item that I saved just for last, because you should be getting it constantly throughout the game..

Observer Wards!
As a support hero, it's your job to place Observer Wards and Sentry Wards around the map.
In league games, this is expected.
In public games/TDA's, your allies will love you, listen to you more, and play a lot better. Also, in public games/TDA's, your opponents won't be expecting them as much, and will adapt less to constantly getting ganked.
5:Early Gameplay

Lich is dominant early game with a powerful nuke, a free-deny spell, and an ultimate that makes him incredibly hard to gank.
Solo or pair up with someone? Who should I pair up with?
The truth is, either. In high level clan matches, games with top players, etc, lich is rarely solo'd. Instead, he's used with heroes like Pugna if it's teampick, or Jakiro if it's allpick.
However- Lich can still solo easily in TDA's, pubs, etc. The main reasons why he doesn't solo in league games are
1: He is countered by dangerous hero combinations like Vengeful Spirit/Maiden, especially when you factor in ganks by Furion.

2: Viper is so deadly solo that it seems foolish to solo anyone else.

In TDA's/Pubs, opponents aren't coordinated enough to use powerful hero combinations that destroy lich, and allies aren't necessarily going to get a Viper.
So, it's your choice. If you're comfortable solo'ing, feel free to ask for it- but it's fine if you don't get it.

Early on- before level 3- your main focus is last hitting and denying, because Frost Nova isn't that powerful yet (But that doesn't mean you shouldn't Frost Nova someone if it's an easy hit). Using Dark Ritual, you can develop an early level-advantage.

At level 3, you should start focusing more on using Frost Nova to harass your opponents. Don't just cast it and run away. Also use your normal, physical attack to get him low while he's slowed, and tell your lane partner (if you have one) to do the same.

Use Dark Ritual every chance you get. Whenever you use it, you should also always need it. By that, I mean that you should be using Frost Nova enough that, whenever Dark Ritual cools down, you shouldn't have to worry about waiting to use it until you need the mana. You should be spamming nova whenever you possibly get the chance.

If you have a partner like Pugna, coordinate your attacks with him. Have him use decripify if your lane opponents ever expose themselves to much. Then immediately use Frost Nova and have Pugna use Nether Blast. Your opponent will immediately take a huge loss in HP. And, unless he has a powerful lane partner (i.e., Jakiro), you can continue to chase. Both Frost Nova and Nether Blast have short cooldowns, so it's very realistic that you can get First Blood as early as level 3 or 4 just by exploiting a minor error (which, obviously, has become a major error).

At this point in the game, you aren't needed for ganks a whole lot. Instead, you should mostly stay in your lane and dominate your opponent.

If you are soloing against 2 heroes, you won't be able to take them down until you get chain frost. Just focus on weakening them and developing a level advantage.

If you are soloing against another solo hero, it will be easier to kill them earlier. Get them weak so that as soon as you get level 6, you can use Chain Frost to take them down. If they're standing beside 1 or 2 other creeps, just cast Chain Frost on them. Unless you get unlucky, you'll probably get at least 2 hits on them- in addition to your Frost Nova. But they don't even have to be standign next to any creeps for it to net you a kill. Many opponents think that if they're not next to creeps, there's no way you'll use your Chain Frost- so they'll stay weaker than they should. They might not notice that only 1 Chain Frost hit, with no bounces, and 1 Frost Nova, with a few physical attacks, will kill them anyway. But don't foolishly waste your ultimate. Practice a little and get to know just how much damage it will do, so you know if it will get you a kill or not.

If you aren't soloing, and you're against 2 heroes, you should be using your combos whenever you have mana and you have a chance of a kill. Constantly spam your spells. Your lane partner may need to buy clarity potions, but you will completely decimate your opponent, forcing them to constantly buy HP regen, and even that won't be enough. Lich with a strong hero like Pugna laning with him is almost guaranteed at least one kill early on.

If you aren't soloing and you're against a solo hero, you should be able to dominate him completely. There is no need to stay behind your creep line. Most of the time, you and your partner can stay all the way up near your opponents ranged creep. Never attack except for last hits; you don't want your creeps to push to the tower. If your opponent ever gets in range, cast Frost Nova on him and focus him. He won't be able to get close.
6:Mid Gameplay

At this point, your main strength is your Chain Frost. You should be helping your teammates out by ganking the enemy constantly. Start laying out a bunch of Observer Wards to help facilitate ganks.

Keep a Town Portal on you constantly, if you can. If, for example, you are laning on top and you're scourge, and your bottom is pushing their 2 heroes a little, you can TP to bottom. Because your bottom is pushing more than theirs, they won't have too many creeps. They won't be expecting a lich to come out of the woods; initiate with Chain Frost and that will set up the carnage- especially if there's only 1 or 2 creeps in addition to the heroes.

Chain Frost is, at this point in the game, completely deadly without creeps to soak up damage. You can survive a 1v3 gank and kill one on top of it if you have a tower on your side. In team battles- especially if it's a scenario like a 2v3, 3v3, or 4v4, it will immediately turn the tide in your team's favor. Their carry-hero-Furion might suddenly be practically dead. Add in a Frost Nova and he is already out of the battle, whether because he's dead or he ran, and that's not even mentioning the fact that you've hit all the other heroes.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to farm very much because you're ganking and then having to go heal so often. That's not a big deal, however, because you're helping your allies with your ganks. Either way, though, the easiest way to get money is to not die.

How to avoid dying?

First off, by using those Observer wards to avoid getting ganked.

Second, by having enough mana to use Mekansm and Dagger of Escape

Third, by not getting too cocky. In battles and ganks, your main purpose is to cast Chain Frost and Frost Nova. After you've done that, you aren't needed a whole lot in the rest of the battle. Obviously, if you can, you should stay. Just keep in mind that it's obviously not worth it to hit an enemy with 3 hits if it means you dying.

Also, keep in mind that, as the game goes on, you get less effective. Don't be passive. This is the point where you must be agressive, or you will find yourself being useless before long. So you can't be waiting for your enemy to gank, and then counter-gank. You have to start it.

Be a team leader and get your team to clear away creeps in a lane so you can blink in and Chain Frost. By being aggressive, you can fight when you're strongest and develop map control so you can constantly gank them.
7:Late Gameplay

Unfortunately, at this point, you are now completely a support-hero, unless you did some serious ownage early on and have crazy items. What does that mean?
Well, first off, it means that you should be buying Observer Wards whenever your team needs them. It will be a huge drain on your money - you won't be able to buy many more items - but at this point, items won't help you that much anyway, and it will take you way too long to get them.

Second, it means that your role in battle is pretty much completely limited to Chain Frosting, Frost Nova'ing, Frost Armoring your strongest heroes, and then getting out- if you can.

In general, you will engage in battles with most of your heroes Frost Armored. Then you're going to Chain Frost a weak hero with high damage (Jakiro, Furion, Lina, etc). Then Frost Nova probably that same hero.

Already you might have to use Mekansm and blink out. If not, stay until you do have to. Typically, however, because you're so fragile, you'll have to blink out right away.

The most important thing is to keep up your advantage that you gained from mid-game. If you had no advantage that you gained from mid-game, there's nothing you can do except support your team.

How do you keep up your advantage?
Use Observer wards to keep your enemy always in check.
Stick together with your team to keep map control..
Continue to use Dark Ritual on creeps that are pushing so that they can't farm as much as your team can (Unless you want that lane to push).
Gank them whenever possible, using Chain Frost to your advantage.
Use the Aegis that you farmed to allow yourself to die in a key push and then come back right away.
8:Replays

Replays are a great way to actually see what I'm saying. Also, you see how it isn't particularly necessary to stick exactly to my item or skill build, as I change it quite a bit.

http://www.wcreplays.com/pub_replays.php?get=37297
This is a TDA played on account hellosir.
Although not league-calibre play, this is the standard way I play lich in TDA's. I solo, dominate my lane, and then start dominating battles. I use Boots of Travel and my Dagger to get a bunch of kills, ending the game at around 60 minutes.

http://www.wcreplays.com/pub_replays.php?get=37300
On account gladiator)ne, I play a decent IHL game. Although my execution was off, this is still a good representation of how to play lich.
9: Conclusion

Lich is one of the most fun heroes to play no matter what setting, and hopefully, using this guide, you can have a lot of fun playing with him. If you have any questions or notice any problems with the guide, feel free to post here or send me a PM. I hope you learned a lot and I will respond quickly to any comments, questions, or criticism.

Heart of Tarrasque

This is a TDA played on account hellosir.
Although not league-calibre play, this is the standard way I play lich in TDA's. I solo, dominate my lane, and then start dominating battles. I use Boots of Travel and my Dagger to get a bunch of kills, ending the game at around 60 minutes.
